Han-Ban China Bridge Competition for College Students Opening Ceremonies

Tonight we were able to attend the opening ceremony for the Han-Ban China Bridge Competition for College Students. The entire performance was in Mandarin. It featured students from around the world singing, dancing and even hip-hopping in Chinese. It was a very impressive display of the use of Mandarin. They highlighted a student from one of the poorest regions in the sudan. He has been studying Chinese for many years. Tonight, they flew him in and offered him a 2 year scholarship to study Chinese while on live tv. He began to cry. It was a very moving site.

It was nice to see students from all over world who have gained a mastery of the Chinese Language. How unfortunate that in the US we do not start world languages earlier in school.
